There is no Twitter replacement

I have been on Twitter since the first year. I went on Diaspora when it was in beta, maybe 8 years ago. I registered on Mastodon 5 years ago, and finally, Post about 6 weeks ago for that beta.

TL;DR

There’s no Twitter replacement. The site will either die or change over time in a direction it is headed for now, which those who flee do not like, or the ship rights itself and people either flock back or stay where they are.

This newest entry is still testing itself, its users and my patience. It has a professional, clean interface (like Medium, actually), generous post length limit (also like Medium) and wants to be a kinder, more civil place. How can it not be civil when most posters declare themselves on the left, posting the same memes and reposed articles to the bubble, day after day? Like any other silo, you can adjust what you see in a “following” feed, and that almost fixes the political problem. There are a lot of photographers on the site, and some are excellent. Original thinkers are in there and with constant curation, you can have a decent experience. However, the main weakness of Post is the difficulty to discuss, some the site was made for.
