They laughed when I tried to explain why they should pay me for being a sponsor of my niche podcast about VoIP in 2007. We’re still there after 12 years, and had sponsors until I decided to stop that last year. I agree with this article and thus found it far too wordy and informative. You had me at “don’t need no stinking gatekeepers”. You see, and I know the authors does, I’m talking to any random reader, the whole point of podcasting is that there are no gatekeepers, no one deciding whether your topic will interest a wide audience. It’s easy and cheap to do, and many do it strictly for the self-expression.

On the other hand, most people who still don’t know anything about podcasts other than what they see on numerous TV series who show caricatures of Alex Jones wannabes, or bloggers with a microphone. For those people, the vast majority, a Netflix for podcasts might work.
