The State of My Social Accounts
Going through my routine of scanning a half dozen social networks to compare and contrast this morning. I love what Chris Rock said in his special, “[…] too many likes and not enough love”.
I won’t be mentioning Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest here, because if I am on them, it’s broadcast only, no real interaction. All social networks require effort to get anything valuable out of them. The time to establish who to “follow” or subscribe to takes quite a while. On Mastodon, just after the big Twitter exodus wave, there were lists of journalists, scientists, academics, historians, etc. These are easily imported into Mastodon, and give you a base.
Twitter: Out of 5,700 followers, I got a a few positive reactions (likes) to a comment of mine about self-expression and how creative people evolve as they grow older. The gist of it was that if you can no longer do one thing your life was centered on, like playing music, you find another. Personally, I can’t understand people who do not cook when they have the time. Anyone can do it, and it brings pleasure to you and others with whom you share. It’s the easiest form of self-expression, (other than posting nonsense on social networks).
