Effect of Spotify’s Greed on Independent Artists

Significant loss of what is arguably the lowest return

I have over 200 tracks on Spotify. These are not music for everyone, so they do not get a big audience, but they do get an audience as show whenI did a quick calculation. I added up every track that has earned less than $1.00 over three years.

The total comes to over $100, about 20% of all revenues. Yes, no one is getting rich on Spotify. As Spotify has the largest audience of all platforms, its effect is at least 80% of all revenues.

Who should that $100 go to, the artist and composer (me) or Taylor Swift’s record label? You know what, if the $100 was going to charity, there’d be an argument for this, even though it is obv-iously unfair.

PLEASE go take a look at the United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) and sign up (free) or take action with them.

I have 65 tracks that will earn, 135 tracks that would earn nothing.

Meanwhile, Spotify is raising its subscription prices. Artists should actually get theirs free.
