Apple and the Reality Distortion Field

Facts:

I’m writing this on a 2011 iMac. 9 years and it’s still running better than any Windows box I have built or bought in the past.

I own an 2011 11" MacBook Air that still works perfectly.

So, when it came to get more power, I bought a Mac Mini, which works very well.

HOWEVER…

Opinion:

Apple’s build quality has dropped proportionally and their innovation lead isn’t that much, if at all. The ecosystem works well, compared to alternatives like Android + Chromebook. But where they innovate most is in convincing people to keep buying and replacing iPhones.

The screw you over constantly with $29 cables and $60 adaptors and $90 mice. Early on, the iPods would not work with any other charger.

Then there was “You’re holding it wrong”, aka, “Antennagate”.

We owned a couple of iPhones early on (4 and 5, I think), but we now use Android phones costing between 1/4 and 1/3 the cost of an iPhone. In fact, I have a spare Motorola that cost $220 and is up to date and works great. It does anything most people would need in a phone, camera, etc.
